    More details about the country

Uruguay (the Oriental Republic of Uruguay or República Oriental del Uruguay) is a sovereign country situated in South America. It is among the continent’s smallest countries, preceded only by Suriname. The country shares its borders with the countries of Brazil and Argentina and has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. The capital as well as one of the largest cities in the country is Montevideo. It can be found on the northern shore of the Rio de la Plata River’s estuary.

Uruguay can be a suitable location to study abroad despite its deceptive appearance. To begin with, while the country only has a few universities, each of the institutions of higher education are properly accredited and internationally recognized. This includes the Universidad de Montevideo and the Universidad de la República, which are featured in the 2020 QS World University Rankings. Furthermore, the country provides a relatively wide selection of fields of study, including favored selections such as Engineering, Management, Arts, Biology, Computer Science, Education, Psychology, Accounting, Medicine, Law & Jurisprudence, and Design. In addition, the country provides multiple opportunities to hone practical skills such as data gathering and foreign-language communication. This is due to contributing factors such as the country’s official language being Spanish in addition to the sovereign state offering a relatively wide range of volunteer and internship programs, with favored selections including Architecture, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Economics, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, and others. In addition to the previously-mentioned advantages, while tuition fees can vary to a certain degree compared to countries such as Brazil or Argentina, they tend to be less costly.
