Ukraine (Ukrayina) is a sovereign country in East Europe and is the second-largest found on the continent preceded only by Russia. The capital and chief city of the state is Kyiv (Kiev, Kyyiv, Kiyev). The city can be found on the Dnieper River and includes a river port as well as a major railway junction. The country of Ukraine shares borders with the sovereign states of Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. The independent state has coastlines on the Sea of Azov as well as the Black Sea.
