    More details about the country

Turkey (the Republic of Turkey or Türkiye Cumhuriyeti) is a sovereign country with a unique geographic and geopolitical position. It is an independent state that lies simultaneously in Asia and Europe. Due to its geopolitical and geographic location, the country has an extensive history of serving as both a bridge and barrier between the two continents. The country shares borders with the sovereign states of Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Greece, and Bulgaria, and has a coastline on the Black Sea. The capital of the country is Ankara, while the main seaport and largest city is Istanbul.

Turkey can be a suitable location to study abroad. To begin with, the country has a rather extensive and diverse list of accredited and internationally recognized institutions of higher education, some of which are featured in the 2020 QS World University Rankings, such as Koç University, Bilkent University, Sabanci University, Middle East Technical University, Bogaziçi Üniversitesi, Hacettepe University, Ankara Üniversitesi, and Istanbul University. Similarly, students can study a broad range of subjects such as Engineering, Economics, Administration, Arts, Sociology, Architecture, Education, Medicine, Business, and Health. In addition, the country is a suitable location to practice foreign languages including Turkish, English, French and others. While the first is the country’s official language, the latter is commonly used for communication, particularly in large cities such as Istanbul. There are also many opportunities to participate in volunteer and internship programs, especially in the fields of Business, Political Studies, Tourism, Education, Construction, Agriculture, Marketing, and Media. Similarly, students have a moderately high chance of finding suitable long-term employment after graduation, particularly if they can speak in one or more foreign languages.
