    More details about the country

East Timor (Timor-Leste) is an independent island country situated at the Malay Archipelago’s southern extreme. It consists of Timor Island’s eastern half, the nearby small islands of Jaco and Atauro (Kambing), as well as the enclave of Ambeno, found on Timor’s northwestern coast. Dili (Dilly or Dilli) is the country’s largest city, chief port, commercial center, and capital. It can be found on the Ombai Strait on Timor Island's northern coast. The city has a mostly Atonese and Timorese population interspersed with Portuguese, Eurasian and Arab Muslim minorities. The country shares borders with Western Timor and has coastlines on the Timor Sea as well as the Weta and Ombai straits.

At a glance, Timor-Leste would appear to be a unsuitable location to study abroad. However, the country can act as a stepping and learning stone in attaining higher education. While the country does have a relatively limited list of accredited institutions of higher education such as the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e, the Dili Institute of Technology, the Institute of Business IOB Timor Leste, and the Instituto Superior Cristal, it does compensate by providing in-depth training on a variety of popular subjects such as Arts, Business, Engineering, Technology, Philology, Culturology, Sociology, Humanities, Mathematics, Information Technologies, Chemistry, Physics, Management, Law, Philosophy, Medicine and others. In addition, the country is a suitable location to hone practical skills via tuition, everyday communication, and volunteer/internship programs. This is due to the country’s official languages including Portuguese, Tetum, with the “working” tongues being English and Indonesian. In addition, the country is a suitable location to participate in volunteer and internship programs, especially in the fields of Agriculture, Education, Economy, Health, Ecology, Biology, and others. However, one should be aware that tuition fees can vary greatly; therefore proper research should be conducted in advance regarding the institution of higher education and study program of choice.
