Taiwan, alternatively known as T’ai-wan, Formosa, is an island country in the western region of the Pacific Ocean. It can be found off Southeast China's coast, about 100 miles (ca. 161 km) into the ocean. The seat of the country’s government is Taipei. Taiwan has coastlines on the East China Sea the Pacific Ocean, the Bashi Channel, and Taiwan (Formosa) Strait. The Formosa Strait also separates the country from China’s mainland. The country is a one legislative house multiparty republic.
Taiwan can be a worthwhile location to study abroad.
