    More details about the country

Syria, officially known as Al-Jumhūrīyah al-ʿArabīyah as-Sūrīyah/Sūrīyah/the Syrian Arab Republic, is a sovereign country in Southwest Asia. It is situated on the Mediterranean Sea’s east coast. It shares its territorial borders with the countries of Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Israel. Dimashq, or Damascus, is the Syrian Arab Republic’s administrative center and capital. The capital can be found on the Baradā River at Mount Qāsiyūn’s base within the southwestern area of the sovereign state. The Syrian Arab Republic is a unitary multiparty republic with one legislative house.

At a glance, Syria would appear to be an unsuitable location to study abroad due to the current military conflict. However, the country can serve as a stepping stone location in attaining higher education and obtaining an academic degree, especially in areas that are not affected by the conflict. To begin with, while the country does have a relatively limited list of accredited institutions of higher education, including popular selections such as the International University for Science and Technology, the Syrian Private University, and the Syrian Virtual University, it does compensate by providing in-depth training on a relatively broad range of subjects such as Engineering, Administration, Business, Information Technologies, Dentistry, Arts, Pharmacy, Medicine, Philology, and Finance & Banking. In addition, while tuition fees can vary greatly, they tend to be less costly compared to countries such as Singapore or Bahrain. Syria is also a suitable location to participate in internship and volunteer programs, especially in the fields of Medicine, Logistics, Psychology, and others. Also, the country’s official language is Arabic, therefore students will be able to learn and hone communication in this widely spoken tongue. However, one should bear in mind that a certain code of dress may be necessary for certain areas of the country outside of campus.
