More details about the country
Singapore, alternatively known as Hsin-chia-p’o Kung-ho-kuo/the Republic of Singapore/Singapore Kudiyarasu/Temasek/Tumasik, is an independent city-state situated at the Malay Peninsula’s southern tip, around 85 miles to the north of the Equator. The city-state’s territory is composed of the Singapore Island and about 60 islets, with the main island occupying around 18 square miles of the combined area. Singapore Island and Peninsular Malaysia are separated by the Johor Strait, a narrow channel crossed by a more than half-a-mile-wide rail and road causeway.
Singapore can be considered a worthwhile destination to study abroad. This is due to several contributing factors such as the range of available institutions of higher education and subjects, range of available internships and/or volunteer programs, the opportunity to practice one or more foreign languages and/or work part-time during the study program. To begin with, Singapore is a country that has a relatively extensive list of universities, with many featured in the 2020 QS World University Rankings, such as the Nanyang Technological University, the National University of Singapore, and the Singapore Management University. Similarly, the list of subjects that can be studied in the city-state includes Management, Business, Accounting, Engineering, Finance & Banking, Arts, Administration, Communication, Marketing, and Sociology. In addition to the previously-mentioned benefits, Singapore is a suitable destination where some international languages of the world such as English can be studied and practiced. However, depending on the institution of higher education, students may need to provide documents such as a TOEFL certificate or find a local sponsor.
