    More details about the country

Portugal, officially known as the Portuguese Republic or República Portuguesa, is a sovereign country that lies along the Iberian Peninsula’s Atlantic coast. The Peninsula is located in southwestern Europe, with the country sharing borders with Spain. The country’s total land area of 35,609 square miles includes the Azores (Açores) and Madeira Islands, which are included in the Metropolitan part of Portugal. The capital and main port of the country is Lisbon, alternatively known as Felicitas Julia/Lisboa/Lixbuna/Luzbona/Olisipo/Olissibona/Ulixbone.

Portugal is often recommended as a tourist destination due to its interesting culture, history, and architecture. However, it should also be considered a worthwhile study abroad location due to several reasons. To begin with, the country has a rather exhaustive list of accredited and internationally recognized institutions of higher education. This includes the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the University of Lisbon, the University of Coimbra, the University of Porto, and the Universidade Nova De Lisboa, which are featured in the 2020 QS World University Rankings. Similarly, the country is a suitable location to study a broad range of subjects such as Management, Sociology, Engineering, Education, Health, Psychology, Arts, Computer Science, Technology, and Administration. In addition, Portugal is among the countries where tuition fees tend to be less costly compared to other countries such as France or Belgium, although they can vary greatly. Furthermore, Portugal is a location where foreign languages such as Portuguese and possibly English can be learned. There are also many opportunities to participate in volunteer programs and/or internships, especially in the fields of Education, Business Administration, Economics, Tourism, Hospitality, Humanities, Ecology, and Architecture.
