The Philippines, officially known as Republika ng Pilipinas or the Republic of the Philippines, is an independent island country in Southeast Asia. It is situated in the western part of the Pacific Ocean and is an archipelago comprised of about 7,100 islets and islands lying around 500 miles off Vietnam’s coast. The capital of the country is Manila. The most populous city of the sovereign state is Quezon City. Both cities are a part of the National Capital Region or Metro Manila, which can be found on the largest island, Luzon.
