More details about the country
New Caledonia (Nouvelle-Calédonie) is a unique French collectivity, located in the southwestern region of the Pacific Ocean. It consists of the island of New Caledonia, the Loyalty Islands, the Bélep Islands, the Île des Pins, as well as several uninhabited islets: D’Entrecasteaux Reefs ‘ Huon and Surprise islands, Chesterfield Islands and the Bellona Reefs’ atolls, the Walpole Island, the Beautemps-Beaupré Atoll, and the Astrolabe Reefs. The capital and main port of the collectivity is Nouméa (Numea, Port-de-France), which can be found on the main island of New Caledonia. It was founded in 1854 and has an excellent deep-water harbor.
New Caledonia can serve as a stepping stone in attaining higher education and obtaining an academic degree. To begin with, while the collectivity does have a relatively limited list of accredited and internationally recognized institutions of higher education, including the University of New Caledonia, it does compromise by providing in-depth training on a variety of study subjects such as Law & Jurisprudence, Economy, Management, Technology, Humanities, Physics, Chemistry, Health, and Education. In addition to the previously-mentioned advantages, New Caledonia is a suitable location to hone practical skill such as communication in French as well as data gathering, interpersonal communication and critical situation analysis via participation in internships and volunteer programs in the fields of Education, Health, Ecology, Environmental Studies, and others. However, one should bear in mind that a student visa may be necessary in order to enter the country and study, therefore proper planning and research should be done to prevent potential setbacks.
