The Netherlands, alternatively known as Holland/Kingdom of The Netherlands/Koninkrijk der Nederlanden/Nederland, is an independent country in northwestern Europe. It is a sovereign country with a form of government: a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch. The current head of state is King Willem-Alexander and the country’s government is known as The Hague. The Kingdom of the Netherlands includes the former colonies Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, Curaçao, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten, found in the Lesser Antilles. The capital of the country is Amsterdam, and it shares borders with Germany and Belgium in addition to having a coastline on the North Sea.
