Micronesia, officially known as the Federated States of Micronesia, is a country in the western Pacific Ocean consisting of over 600 islands and islets of the Caroline Islands archipelago amounting to a total of 273.5 square miles of land. The capital of the sovereign state is Palikir, which can be found on the island of Pohnpei. The countries closest to the border of Micronesia are the Republic of the Palau, which can be also found in the Caroline archipelago, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
