Mali

Mali, officially known as République du Mali or the Republic of Mali, is a sovereign landlocked country in western Africa whose total land area of 479,245 square miles is mostly found in the Sahelian and Saharan regions. Due to its location, Mali’s terrain is mostly flat and arid with the exclusion of the area around the Niger River which functions as the main trading and transport artery as well as the main source of agricultural land due to its occasional floods. Mali shares its borders with the countries of Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, and Mauritania. The capital of the country is Bamako, and the form of government is a multiparty republic with one legislative house.

At a glance, the Republic of Mali can appear to be an unsuitable location to study abroad due to its location and adjacent countries. However, the country can serve as a stepping stone in attaining higher education and obtaining an academic degree. To begin with, the country has a relatively limited number of institutions of higher education, but each of the universities has proper accreditation and provides in-depth training on a variety of subjects such as Biology, Business, Administration, Computer Science, Information Technologies, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Philology, Sociology, and History. Also, the country’s institutions of higher education have relatively affordable tuition fees and can provide an opportunity to practice foreign languages such as French due to this tongue being the country’s official language. Furthermore, there are multiple opportunities to participate in internship programs in fields of study such as Marketing, Business, Finance, Accounting, Law, Healthcare, Agriculture, and Education.
