Macao

Macao (Ao-men, Aomen, Macau) is one of China’s special administrative regions. It is situated on the southern coast of the country, on the Pearl or Zhu River’s estuary. The region consists of a comparatively small and narrow peninsula that projects from the Guangdong province and includes the islands of Coloane and Taipa, which are joined by a stretch of land reclaimed from the sea known as Cotai. The capital and main city of the special administrative region, Macau, extends up a hillside that occupies nearly the entire peninsula.
