    More details about the country

Jamaica, officially known by its alternative names of Santiago, Xaymaca, is an island country of the West Indies and the third-largest island in the Caribbean Sea, with Cuba and Hispaniola taking the first and second place, respectively. It can be found about 100 miles to the west of Haiti, 90 miles to the south of Cuba, and 390 miles to the northeast of Cape Gracias a Dios, on Central America’s Caribbean coast. The capital and chief port of the country is Kingston, a large city which sprawls along the southeastern coast and renowned for its natural harbor, that is protected by the Palisadoes, a narrow peninsula and popular tourist resort.

Jamaica is often recommended as a tourist destination due to factors such as its natural beauty and diverse culture. However, the country should also be considered a suitable and worthwhile location to study abroad and attain a higher education including obtaining a degree. To begin with, the country provides a broad and diverse selection of universities and subjects. This includes popular choices such as the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology and the College of the Caribbean. Among the popular selections regarding subjects of study include Management, Education, Business, Tourism, Hospitality, Accounting, Information Technologies, Arts, Computer Science, as well as Finance & Banking. The country also has relatively affordable tuition fees although they can vary greatly depending on the institution of higher education. Similarly, while the standard of living in Jamaica is relatively high, the costs for everyday expenses are comparatively low. In addition, the country is a suitable location to practice foreign languages such as English.
