    More details about the country

Iceland, often referred to as Ísland, Lýdhveldidh Ísland, or the Republic of Iceland, is an island and independent country situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies on the geologic border between North America and Europe. The capital of the country and its largest city is Reykjavík (“Bay of Smokes”). Its other large cities are Akureyri, Hafnarfjördhur, and Selfoss. Iceland has coastlines on several seas and one ocean. These are the Greenland Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Denmark Strait. It is also one of the countries with the most volcanoes due to its relatively young geologic age.

Iceland can be an interesting and worthwhile location to study abroad, particularly for students with an interest in Geology or similar fields of study. While the country does have a relatively limited list of available universities, it does compensate by providing an extensive list of subjects, many of which are taught partially or fully in English. For instance, the country provides in-depth training and education on subjects such as Engineering, Education, Natural Sciences, Journalism, Biomedicine, Psychology, Architecture, Arts, Earth Sciences, Business, Tourism, Marketing, Economics, Environmental Studies, and Ecology. In addition, the country is also a suitable location to obtain a doctoral degree as it provides internationally recognized and state-of-the-art research facilities. Furthermore, the country offers many opportunities to participate in internships, especially in the fields of Tourism & Hospitality, Marine Biology, Forestry & Geology. However, one should bear in mind that registration and tuition fees can vary greatly depending on which of the institutions of higher education has been chosen. Also, most universities have deadlines regarding the application which can be strict.
