    More details about the country

Haiti, officially known by its alternatives Ayti, République d’Haïti, Repiblik Dayti, and the Republic of Haiti, is an independent country in the Caribbean Sea. It is the second sovereign state to have won its independence in the two America’s, having accomplished this feat in 1804. Its 10,695 square miles of territory includes the western third of the island of Hispaniola as well as Gonâve, Grande Caye, Tortue (Tortuga), and Vache. The capital of Haiti is Port-au-Prince. It shares borders with with the Dominican Republic, which covers the rest of Hispaniola, and it has coastlines on the Caribbean Sea as well as the Atlantic Ocean.

Haiti can be a worthwhile location to study abroad and obtain an academic degree. It has about 45 accredited and internationally recognized institutions of higher education including popular universities such as Universite Quisqueya which specializes in Education, Political Sciences, Economics, Administration, Architecture, Law & Jurisdiction, Agriculture, Ecology, Earth Sciences and others. There are also institutions of higher education which provide courses in popular fields such as Business, Accounting, Engineering, Computer Sciences, Medicine, Management, and Sociology. While tuition fees can vary greatly depending on which institution of higher education has been selected, they tend to be less costly in comparison to countries such as the USA. In addition to the above-mentioned advantages, Haiti is also a suitable location to participate in internships and volunteer programs. This is due to the country offering a broad range of subjects on which students can gain practical skills and experience. For instance, a student can take part in projects related to Education and/or Medicine.
