More details about the country
The Gambia, also known as the Republic of the Gambia, is the smallest non-island country in Africa as well as the most densely populated. It is situated in western Africa, on the Atlantic coast and surrounded by the country of Senegal. It consists of the land surrounding the Gambia River, forming a long and narrow strip. The rather unusual shape and size of the country come as a result of territorial compromises made by Great Britain, and France when the two colonizers ruled over the lower Gambia River and Senegal, respectively. The capital and largest city of the Republic of Gambia is Banjul, formerly known as Bathurst.
Initial assumptions regarding Gambia and its ability to help in attaining a higher education can be rather deceptive. While the country does have a limited number of universities that accept international students it does compromise by providing an extensive list of available subjects. This includes popular fields of study such as Economics, Health, Business, and Political Science. as a result of these advantages, the country can serve as a stepping stone for furthering one’s education while providing insight into African cultures. Additionally, the country is also a suitable location to practice foreign-language communication in English. This is due to this tongue being the country’s official language, used in both education as well as government matters. Students can furthermore take advantage of the opportunity to learn practical skills via one or more volunteer programs. For instance, the country often has openings in the fields of Education, Medicine & Health Care as well as Building & Maintenance.
