    More details about the country

The Dominican Republic is an independent country located in the Greater Antilles. It can be found on Hispaniola Island where it occupies two-thirds of the island with the remaining one-third being occupied by Haiti. The Dominican Republic is the second-largest Caribbean country in terms of size and population. This is due to the sovereign state’s 18,700 square miles of land and a population of about 10 million people with more than 1 million inhabiting the capital city is Santo Domingo.

The Dominican Republic is often recommended and visited as a popular tourist site. Yet, it can also serve as a suitable location to obtain a high-quality academic degree. There are several reasons why this sovereign state should be considered a location for obtaining a higher education. To begin with, the country has about 35 institutions of higher education with proper accreditations. Each of these universities offers a wide range of subjects to select from, with popular choices including Accounting, Law & Jurisprudence, Marketing, Business, Engineering, Education, Administration, Sociology, Economics, Medicine, and Agriculture. Many of the universities can be found in Santo Domingo, the capital, with the often-chosen including Universidad Autonoma de Santa Domingo, Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad APEC, and others. Apart from the comprehensive list of available institutions and programs including Ph.D. ones, the country also offers quite a few opportunities for volunteering and internship. For instance, a student can enroll in one or more volunteer projects related to Medicine. Among the internships which are often available and/or popular include Public Health & Medicine, Hospitality & Tourism, Media & Marketing, as well as Education. The Dominican Republic is also a suitable location to practice and study Spanish, one of the widely spoken languages in many industries. However, it should be noted that tuition fees for international students can be rather costly, and not all universities offer scholarships; also a student will have to apply at least six months in advance for the institution of choice as the number of available openings for each program tends to be limited.
