The Democratic Republic of the Congo, often referred to by its acronym DRC or as Congo (Kinshasa), is a country located in central Africa. It is, for the most part, a landlocked country apart from a 25-mile coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. It is among the largest countries on the continent of Africa, surpassed only by Algeria. The capital of the sovereign state is Kinshasa and is located on the Congo River about 320 miles from its mouth. It serves as the country’s official administrative, economic, and cultural center and is the largest city in central Africa. DRC shares its borders with the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Angola.
