    The Federal Islamic Republic of the Comoros, commonly referred to as Comoros, is an independent state consisting of three of the four Comoros islands, with the fourth being administered by France. It is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa and stands at an important crossroad location between East Africa and Asia. It is a former French colony with the three islands which make up the sovereign state, gaining independence in 1975. Its form of government is a republic with one legislative house, with the capital of the country being Moroni, which is situated on the island Grande Comore.
