Bahamas

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is a country consisting of around 700 islands and cays located in the western section of the Atlantic Ocean. It is close to the state of Florida with the closest Family Island being about 50 miles off the coast of South Florida. Of the 700 islands which comprise the Bahamas, about 30 are inhabited with the capital Nassau located on New Providence Island. It is a country with a diverse and interesting culture due to the blend of European and African heritages, courtesy of its history. It is also a location often frequented by tourists due to its natural beauty as well as diverse wildlife.

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas can be a suitable location for obtaining an academic degree. While its list of institutions of higher education is not as extensive as countries like Australia or Germany, it does compensate by providing a rather vast array of available programs. For instance, students can choose between Mathematics, Sociology, Tourism, Business, Education, Ecology, Arts, Accounting, Health, Administration, Psychology, Law & Jurisprudence, and others. Of these, popular tend to be Tourism, Business, and Mathematics. However, Ecology and other programs related to the preservation and study of nature including wildlife are also recommendable as the islands provide plenty of opportunities to gather data that can be used during research projects. There is also plenty of opportunities to practice skills which a chosen field of expertise requires through volunteer work. For instance, there are many programs involving providing aid to wildlife conservation such as helping to track sea turtles, participating in dolphin research, helping with bird conservation or providing disaster relief in the wake of hurricanes. Should a student require financial aid during their studies due to restrictions in budget or other reasons, they may request financial aid in the forms of private or government grants, scholarships, and awards. It should be noted, however, that only one financial aid can be used per semester. Furthermore, such grants are given only to full-time students.
