More details about the country
Armenia is a relatively small landlocked country to the south of Transcaucasia. It takes up the northeast part of Armenian Highlands and boasts one of the highest mountains in the region, the Mount Ararat, as well as the second world’s largest lake, Lake Sevan. It is a sovereign state which shares its borders with countries such as Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey. Its capital is Yerevan, otherwise known as Erevan. It is a country consisting mostly of mountainous terrains such as high mountain ridges, intermountain hollows, and plains. Because of its location and terrain, winters tend to be on the cold side. This makes it a great choice for winter sports as well as mountain hiking. The country was once part of the vast ancient Armenia which stretched from the south-central Black Sea coast to the Caspian Sea, and from the Mediterranean Sea to Lake Urmia, and was one of the world’s oldest centers of civilization. This can be traced within the sovereign state’s many landmarks as well as its diverse culture.
While Armenia is a place worth visiting as a popular and very often enigmatic tourist site, it is also a destination worth traveling to as a student. There are several reasons why this small landlocked country can be considered an excellent option to obtain a higher education. These include benefits such as the vast selection of accredited universities and institutions, including popular ones such as the Armenian Medical School in Cilician Armenia, and the Armenian University of Armenia. Of these, the Medical School in Cilician Armenia specializes in the fields of Medicine with a heavy focus on medical technology and techniques, while the University of Armenia has a vast array of Business and Law programs. Apart from the extensive list of accredited institutions and the equally impressive choice of programs to select from, the country also provides plentiful opportunities to start a career upon graduation. This is due to the sovereign state’s need for professionals to assist its economy and healthcare. As a result, graduates who return to the sovereign state are quite often offered means to start their own business or to get state assistance with their research or business venture. In addition to such opportunities, there are also many opportunities to participate in volunteer programs which can help in furthering a student’s skills or knowledge in the field of choice. Examples of such programs include certain programs like linking volunteering with archeology and historic preservation. There are also year-round internship opportunities offered by organizations such as the Armenian Volunteer Corps (AVC).
