    More details about the country

Algeria is one of the world’s largest countries ranking at number 10. It is located on the Mediterranean coast between Morocco and Tunisia. Its neighbors include Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Niger and the often-disputed western Sahara. It is a country which roughly consists of three different terrains. These include the Mediterranean coast where scattered sea beaches and bays encourage sports such as swimming. The coats itself stretches to the Atlas Mountains which divide it from the High Plains, where vast grasslands provide the main source of food for the country’s livestock. Completing the country’s interesting geography is the Sahara Desert which takes up four-fifths (4/5) of the 919,594 square miles which Algeria boasts. Most of the over 41.6 million people inhabiting the country are concentrated on the coast. Similar is the situation with their largest cities (including the capital Algiers) and prime industrial centers. There is much which can be seen both from a cultural, historical and nature-loving perspective when it comes to Algeria. For instance, one can enjoy the sandy beaches of the coast, or go hiking within the mountains. There are also plentiful museums, and places to enjoy music and dance.

Because of its diverse culture and historical background as well as the advances the government has made, Algeria is an excellent location for obtaining a high education. It has more than 65 institutions of higher education, including 26 universities. Of these universities in question, the University of Algiers is both a popular choice and one of the oldest in existence, operating for more than 136 years. The country also provides the opportunity to select from a vast array of available studies including Engineering, Economics, Humanities, Business, Technology, etc. You also can choose whether to have the training be done in English or French, allowing students to practice and train their foreign language skills. In addition, they can choose whether to study for 5 semesters to become technicians or opt for the more extensive yet far more rewarding 12-semester program. However, it should be noted that the tuition fees can vary quite a bit, therefore one should always check if the university they plan to enter is affordable for their budget. Should students want to participate in projects, especially ones financed by the government or by important foundations/organizations related to their studies (International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), International Development Research Center of Canada (IDRC)), they will have a wide range available to them. For instance, the country is currently working on developing endemic mycorrhizal agents to improve productivity and increase food security. This can be of help for the students who seek to further their knowledge in their chosen agricultural field of expertise.
